Dock as Therapy Metaphor

A BIT ABOUT THERAPY

Good therapy typically comes with a metaphor, right? Well, at the risk of sounding too cliché, I like to compare therapy with how we might decide to swim. To start, we all have different reasons for wanting to get in the water. We may have never learned how to swim (respond/effectively cope) in the first place. We might feel like it takes a lot of energy to stay afloat. We might understand that water is cleansing, but we may be hesitant (or on the contrary, we might really look forward to it). Our readiness and decision to jump off a dock, descend from the ladder, or slowly enter from the beach to get used to the water depends on many factors: the "weather" (what is currently happening around us), the available "floating devices" (supportive people and resources), our past experiences, etc. There is no right or wrong way to connect with water or begin/return to therapy. But you're not on an island, so you don't have to do it alone. I believe a helpful therapist does not do the work for you by pushing or pulling you off the deep-end. Instead, they can help prepare you, encourage you, and/or walk (or jump) alongside you to help navigate the water when you're open to feeling renewed.

About Me & My Approach

Personable. Professional. Systemic.

Danielle Morrow, MSc, RP, RMFT

Hi, my name is Danielle Morrow. It feels awkward to introduce myself on a website, but I recognize clients often carry out preemptive research of different therapist/therapy options before choosing the right one (and as they should - it is actually something I encourage). But I do not aim to convince you that I am “it”, so please feel free to connect with me for a free 15-minute consultation so we can both determine if I might be the right fit for you. Nonetheless, it is reasonable to want to know a little about me and how I might be of help to you before doing so.

Psychotherapy Services

One Page at a Time

I am grateful and privileged to be able to live and work on the traditional land of the Anishnaabe peoples, in the territory of Nipissing First Nation, protected by the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850. Whether meeting with you virtually or immersing ourselves within the nature of this beautiful land, I truly acknowledge my privilege. I give thanks to my friends, colleagues, and educators for the Indigenous wellness practices that have been shared with me and I am humbled to be a life-long learner, committed to truth and reconciliation.

Narratives in Nature

Now Available!

Quality and effective therapy does not have to be confined to a virtual or in-person clinical setting. Research highlights the benefits to our wellbeing when connecting with nature. So why not combine psychotherapy and the outdoors? Some examples of outdoor therapy that may be offered is “walk-and-talk”, kayaking ("let's yak"), or good-old-fashioned-sitting (but with fresh air, maybe even on a dock)! Separate consent and eligibility considerations required.

Therapy Retreats

Now Available!

Connecting with others who have a shared purpose or lived experience only gets better when you’re surrounded by nature’s elements. "Therapy Book Club" (mini retreats) is currently being offered. Specific information can be found on our social media platforms (see top of page for links).
